Gathering Blue

It was a sweet book. I didn't like it as much as I did The Giver, but it was nice. The one thing I have to say though is that it's really slow.

Now the world is different then The Giver's, it was more savage and filthy. The main character, Kira is a 11-12 year old girl who was born with a twisted leg. Now naturally in their world if you have some problem they bury you in the field and the "beasts" come and eat you. But even though her mother died and her father was taken by the beasts she's able to fend for herself. She find out that she has a gift. Whenever she uses thread they seem to control themselves making magnificent art.

In the story she has a little tag-a-long 7-8 boy named Matt and his dog Branch, who helps her a lot. She also meets a 11-12 year old carver named Thomas and a 3-4 year old girl named Jo. Thomas, Jo and Kira all have gifts and over the course of this book they realize how important their gifts really are.



If you're wondering; you DO NOT have to read The Giver before you read this. But if you want to read the last book in the series; The Messenger you have to have read The Giver and Gathering Blue.

The Giver

I didn't really understand The Giver until I really got into it. The world in this book is so controlled and so found of sameness that they've forgotten how to love and to feel. Jonas (the main character) gets assigned the job Receiver of Memories, and as the Giver is givein memories he sees what it was like "back and back and back". Blue skies, green grass, snow, the ocean, sorrow, war, death, and love. He also realizes that he is tired of living in a black and white movie he wants color and emotion back in the people's life. But he realizes that all the community wants is a controlling community that stops people from making choices on their own, the want sameness.

No one realizes what they're doing because the only people with emotions are Jonas and the Giver. They together make a plan to leave the community and go for Elsewhere. Jonas insisted that the Giver come with him but he objected because he told him that when he leaves the community all the memories he had given him will come back to the people and he needed to be here when that happened.

I loved this book and I hope that you decide to read it. Plus if you really liked this book there are two more in the series; Gathering Blue and The Messenger.

Being Geeky

So my mom and older sister got me hooked on this TV show called "Castle" and I LOVE IT!!!!! It's about a mystery writer who teams up with a female detective. It has some really funny bits. Okay that's not the only thing I'm being geeky about, I'm counting down the days with my sister until HARRY POTTER 7 COMES OUT AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay last thing: LAST HERO CAME OUT AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to read it! Rick Riordan is an awesome writer!! My sister camped out at Borders reading it and she said it was totally worth it.

Sorry I have been really really really bad about blogging so time to catch up:
-I'm now in 4th grade
-I cut my hair
-I really need to get over that when I switched rooms with Megan there is no take backs
- I got a MP3 player for Christmas

I REALLY REALLY NEED TO STOP WHINING ABOUT STUFF MEGAN CAN DO AND I CAN'T(like have a cellphone or have her ears pierced)

Traveling to Find an Old Friend (Really Just Past the Church)

So after the last time I saw Keaton I was going to hip-hop and a saw Keaton (again)! So I go on an adventure to find his house.I remember 2 clues:
-Lives near me (That means Pamela or Rolling Hills)
-A blue house (Not very many blue houses)
Not very many clues too find it (and I never did). Oh well maybe next time I see him (or his sister) I could ask him/her where they live. Next time...next.......time.
