The Messenger

I think that this book was the darkest out of the three. It had many evil qualities to it.

The main character, Matty is an older version of Matt from Gathring Blue. Matty's living in Village with the Seer (Kira's dad) and having some what of a normal life. Matty realizes that he has a gift, the same way Leader (Jonas from The Giver) and Kira (Gathering Blue) do.

This book is about Matty's journey to warn people that Village is being walled up because of the rivalry between people in Village. So Matty goes on his journey through Forest to return Kira to Seer.

Lois Lowery is an amazing author. She made it possible for me to imagine all the pain that Kira and Matty were feeling on their treacherous journey through Forest.

I love this book!!! I love Lois Lowery!!! ENJOY!!!

and....(drumroll please)

HERE'S ME WITH BANGS!!!!!

Aren't I cute!!!! :)

Gathering Blue

It was a sweet book. I didn't like it as much as I did The Giver, but it was nice. The one thing I have to say though is that it's really slow.

Now the world is different then The Giver's, it was more savage and filthy. The main character, Kira is a 11-12 year old girl who was born with a twisted leg. Now naturally in their world if you have some problem they bury you in the field and the "beasts" come and eat you. But even though her mother died and her father was taken by the beasts she's able to fend for herself. She find out that she has a gift. Whenever she uses thread they seem to control themselves making magnificent art.

In the story she has a little tag-a-long 7-8 boy named Matt and his dog Branch, who helps her a lot. She also meets a 11-12 year old carver named Thomas and a 3-4 year old girl named Jo. Thomas, Jo and Kira all have gifts and over the course of this book they realize how important their gifts really are.

If you're wondering; you DO NOT have to read The Giver before you read this. But if you want to read the last book in the series; The Messenger you have to have read The Giver and Gathering Blue.

ENJOY!!!

The Giver

I didn't really understand The Giver until I really got into it. The world in this book is so controlled and so found of sameness that they've forgotten how to love and to feel. Jonas (the main character) gets assigned the job Receiver of Memories, and as the Giver is givein memories he sees what it was like "back and back and back". Blue skies, green grass, snow, the ocean, sorrow, war, death, and love. He also realizes that he is tired of living in a black and white movie he wants color and emotion back in the people's life. But he realizes that all the community wants is a controlling community that stops people from making choices on their own, the want sameness.

No one realizes what they're doing because the only people with emotions are Jonas and the Giver. They together make a plan to leave the community and go for Elsewhere. Jonas insisted that the Giver come with him but he objected because he told him that when he leaves the community all the memories he had given him will come back to the people and he needed to be here when that happened.

I loved this book and I hope that you decide to read it. Plus if you really liked this book there are two more in the series; Gathering Blue and The Messenger.

ENJOY!!!
